The World Brotherhood Camporee was one of Troop 400's first campouts, and it is still one of the most widely anticipated events out of Troop 400's busy schedule. This year, Tom, Luke, Chuck, and Mike headed up to Wellesley Island State Park early to give the troop a head start on setting up their site. When they got their at 4:30, they discovered that the two sites the troop had been assigned were separated by a public restroom building. Needless to say, this was bad news. With the guidance of Scoutmaster Phil, they did the best they could by setting up camp on one site. This resulted in a new sleeping configuration, devised by Phil. Our two awnings were lined up end to end, and a second room was built onto one of the sides of our new super awning. This second room, constructed out of huge blue tarps and metal poles, was to be the community sleeping area.
On Saturday morning, we got dressed in our Class A uniforms, and Troop 400 headed out to the parade field to join the other 3,000 scouts in the opening ceremony for the campout. Afterwards, the fun began, with patch trading lasting throughout most of the day. When scouts weren't trading patches, they were playing card games, hacky sack, or Vonaball.
On Saturday night, the camp welcomed a scout-led Christian Rock band as the opener for a DJ Jam Session. The concert
lasted late into the night, and scouts were quite overtired the next morning when the campsite had to be disassembled and
we had to appear at the closing ceremony. Needless to say, however, everyone had a great time.
