This is the original visual representation of Oggie. It was drawn by Steven G. in 1978, and it was eventually turned into an 8 inch backpatch. The boys of Troop 400 still wear the backpatch today. They earn the privelage upon recieving the First Class rank.
This contemporary Oggie design was drawn by Lucas Slominski in 1998. It did not go into production until 1999, but since then, it has been reprinted every year on the backs of Troop 400's tie-dye Class B Uniform T-shirts.
Also designed by Lucas Slominski, this heraldic coat of arms was concieved to add a tone of seriousness to Troop 400's image. The complex line drawing decorates the front of Troop 400's trademark sweatshirts. The inscription embedded within the design reads "Oggus Lacerta ex Lacus," or, "Oggie: Lizard of the Lake." Beneath this is a scroll similar to that found on the Second Class rank patch. In this case, however, the words "Be Prepared" have been replaced by "Scientia, Fidelitas, Virtus," or, "Knowledge, Honor, Virtue." In addition to the Scout Law, the scouts of Troop 400 live by this motto. The design also contains the American Flag, Troop 400's flag, a claymore-style broad-sword, and a celtic Oggie woven behind a shield with the Boy Scout American Eagle engraved on it. The crest first appeared in a painting by Norman Rockwell, encouraging the public to buy War Bonds during WWII. Behind the Eagle are three diagonal stripes, symbolic of the American soldiers who fought in Vietnam. This token pays tribute to our Sponsor, the Vietnam Veterans Foundation of CNY.
