For most scouts, the worst day of camp is the last. After waking up, packing up, and eating a cold breakfast, troops are dismissed from camp, and sent on the long journey home. Regardless of the weather, one cannot look at the beautiful landscapes of Adirondack State Park that they are about to leave behind without feeling somewhat melancholy. Troop 400 tries to make this last leg of summer camp as fun as possible.
Every year, we make several stops on the way home. Heading south through the mountains, our first stop is made at Hoss's General Store, in Long Lake. With a white pine tree growing through the center of the building and out the roof, Hoss's has a wide selection of Adirondack mementos, and a woodsman flare that makes it truly unique. Further along our journey, the troop will make one final stop at the Pied Piper restaurant in Old Forge. This last-minute meal stop has become tradition for Troop 400, and gives everybody one last chance to eat together before going their separate ways.
