| Just after lunch on Monday of camp week, Troop 400 will depart for the Trek Center of Camp Sabattis. While most of the camp is surrounded by Three Pound Pond, Big Hornet Pond, and Little Hornet Pond, the Trek Center is stationed on the shore of Lowe's Lake--part of a huge Adirondack water system with multiple islands. Troop 400's trek will lead them on a canoe trip from the Trek Center to Pole Island, a medium-sized piece of land with one campsite in the middle. On monday night we will sleep here, and have the entire island to ourselves. | ![]() |
![]() | Once we've paddled several miles and arrived at Pole Island, the troop will undertake an unpacking process, wherein we remove all of our gear from the canoes, and set up our tents. From there, we'll board our watercraft once again, and head further into the heart of the lake. After paddling halfway across the lake, we'll beach our canoes on the shore, and construct a sail out of a felled tree and heavy tarp. Afterwards, with our canoes tied together, we'll use the power of the wind to sail us back to pole island. This is arguably one of the best parts of camp. |
| When we get back to our island campsite, the first order of business is dinner. Everyone will be hungry by this time of day, so the troop will go about preparing dinner together. By the time everyone is done eating and cleaning up, it will be dark, and scouts will have finished preparing a bonfire on the beach. To finish off the night, Troop 400 will illuminate the northern beach of Pole Island by tying lightsticks to the ends of ropes, and swinging them in circles. It makes for a brilliant display, and is a great way to execute a UFO hoax. The next morning, we will pack up our gear, and paddle back to the Trek Center, ending our canoe trip. | ![]() |
