When Troop 400 arrives at Sabattis in the early afternoon, their first day of camp is only beginning. First, our troop will be assigned a "guide" who will lead us to our campsite, and go over some of Sabattis' rules and regulations. After everyone claims their tent and tentmate, they'll get changed into bathing suits and towels, in preparation for the swim test. Since all scouts and adults alike won't be able to participate in any water-related activities (including the canoe trip) without taking a swim test, this is a very important rite of passage.
After completing the swim test, Troop 400 will be taken on a tour of camp by our camp guide, which will help orientate new campers to the locations of Sabattis' most important places. We'll return to our campsite in time to change into our Class A Uniforms, and then head to the camp-wide barbecue. Hot dogs, hamburgers, potatoes, and corn on the cob are all on the menu, along with dessert. Once everyone is done with dinner, we'll line up with the other troops at camp, and march off to the fire circle, where the camp staff will present the opening campfire. When the campfire is over, Scouts will be glad to get back to their tents and go to sleep... They'll be waking up early tomorrow.
