A big part of summer camp for most scouts is the merit badge classes that run throughout the day. Though this may not be the most fun program feature, scouts will spend a large part of their time at camp attending these classes, and they are a big help when it comes time to advance to Star, Life, or Eagle. There is enough time in the schedule at camp for a scout to take up to six merit badges, or two merit badges and Trailblazers; however, Troop 400 typically recommends Scouts take on less of a workload, as our overnight trek to Pole Island will cause scouts to miss some of their classes, and it may be necessary for them to make up time during other class periods.
A word on Trailblazers...

The Trailblazer program is designed for younger scouts to help slingshot them into higher ranks. It runs every day for either the entire morning or entire afternoon. Over the week, Scouts at Trailblazers will complete most of their requirements for the Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class ranks. Obviously, this is a very beneficial program for getting scouts on their way to higher ranks. Additionally, Trailblazers will conduct a hike to the top of Graves Mountain, a peak located on camp property. Challenge Valley is also on the menu for Trailblazers scouts, which is a large, exciting obstacle course that never fails to provide scouts with mud-drenched fun.
